
Funding for Early-Career Researchers
The Geographical Society of Cologne offers grants of up to €5,000 through the Dr. Hohmann Grant to support young geographers at universities in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Eligible projects include, for example, doctoral or post-doctoral research in the field of human–environment studies.
Funding may cover travel expenses, research-related costs, or publication fees.
This grant was established thanks to a bequest from Cologne pharmacist Dr. Hans Hohmann, who left his estate to the society to support early-career scholars.
Application Details
The maximum funding amount is €5,000.
The application deadline is 15 October 2025.
Receiving this grant does not exclude applicants from other sources of funding.
Selection criteria include:
- Scientific excellence
- Originality of the project
- Feasibility and coherence

- Project outline and objectives (max. 2 pages)
- Work and time schedule
- Budget plan and funding requirements
- Letter of reference from a university lecturer
- Curriculum vitae
